SKIN CARE OF YOUR CHILD: what to do and what to avoid
Let's dispel the myths regarding some common habits and choose only natural products.
The skin is not just an outer covering, but it is also the largest organ we have. Children' s skin is definitely very delicate. It is therefore essential to avoid products that alter the normal pH and create irritations.
There are also some cliches concerning children's skincare that absolutely must be dispelled: avoid talc, too frequent baby baths and products that contain synthetic fragrances, especially all those so-called "children" products who do not actually guarantee quality.
In fact, experts are questioning some widespread habits among mothers. Let's look at them in more detail:
Give your child a bath every day? It's better not to.
If done every day it unnecessarily stresses children' s skin, which needs to take many important steps, such as building up its defense. Washing children several times a day at every diaper change, or even using aggressive cleaning products makes the situation even worse. Only certain parts of the body should be cleansed daily: face, hands, feet and intimate areas; exclusively with natural products, containing olive oil or vegetable milk and above all, free of petrochemical substances.
And what about using talc during diaper change?
Not yet. It can be replaced with some more natural powder, starch or bran based, but not always. Maybe when it's hot, but it is important to remember that children sweat more, and so, an occlusive substance is not recommended.
Detergents, perfumes and wipes?
Perfumes for children which could cause irritation or allergies. Pay attention to wipes too, especially if they contain harmful petroleum substances.
Products of natural origin, free of parabens, silicones and synthetic fragrances should always be preferred.
